Best Way to Dye Clothes with Dylon Intense Black

Dylon Intense Black Fabric Dye is one of the best choices for achieving a deep, long-lasting black colour on fabrics. Whether you are reviving faded clothes or giving new garments a fresh look, follow this detailed guide for the best results.

Choosing the Right Fabric

Dylon Intense Black works best on natural fibres such as:

  • Cotton

  • Linen

  • Viscose

Fabrics with synthetic blends (e.g., polyester-cotton mix) may result in lighter shades. It is not suitable for 100% polyester, acrylic, or nylon.

Best Dyeing Methods

1. Machine Dyeing – For Even, Hassle-Free Results

What You Need:

  • Dylon Intense Black Fabric Dye (Machine Dye Pod)

  • 250g of salt (to fix the colour)

  • Washing machine

Steps:

  1. Wash Fabric First – Clean the fabric to remove any dirt, fabric softeners, or finishes.

  2. Prepare the Machine – Place the damp fabric into the washing machine drum.

  3. Add the Dye – Remove the outer packaging of the dye pod and place it on top of the fabric.

  4. Add Salt – Pour the required amount of salt into the detergent drawer.

  5. Run a Cycle – Set the machine to a 30-40°C cotton cycle without pre-wash.

  6. Rinse & Wash Again – After dyeing, run another wash cycle with detergent to remove excess dye.

  7. Dry Naturally – Avoid direct sunlight to prevent fading.

2. Hand Dyeing – For More Control Over the Process

What You Need:

  • Dylon Intense Black Hand Dye Packet

  • Large bucket or container

  • 6 litres of warm water

  • 250g of salt

  • Stirring stick

  • Gloves

Steps:

  1. Dissolve the Dye – Mix the dye powder with warm water in a bucket.

  2. Add Salt – Stir thoroughly to ensure an even colour application.

  3. Submerge Fabric – Fully soak the fabric, stirring constantly for the first 15 minutes.

  4. Let It Sit – Keep the fabric in the dye for at least 1 hour, stirring occasionally.

  5. Rinse & Wash – Rinse under cold water until the water runs clear, then wash with mild detergent.

  6. Air Dry – Hang to dry in a shaded area.

Tips for Best Results

  • Use more than one dye pod for large garments or deeper black shades.

  • Always wear gloves to prevent staining your hands.

  • Avoid fabric softeners after dyeing, as they can affect the colour.

  • Wash dyed items separately for the first few washes to prevent colour transfer.

  • If dyeing synthetic-blend fabrics, expect a slightly lighter shade.

By following these steps, you’ll achieve a rich, intense black shade with long-lasting results!
